Flood devastates Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The Noa-Dehing River has submerged entire Lekang circle with surging water flowing in at New-Silatoo, while flood water has affected the entire Piyong circle, Namsai Township and its adjoining villages.
A report from Tezu WRD division added that the affected villages in Lekang circle are New - Silatoo, Mahadevpur-I, II, III, IV, Mahaloni, Podumoni, Kothalguri, Krishnapur, Dharmpur, Dirak-Miri and Rajabeel. The water level of Noa-Dehing River is rising. In Namsai circle, the affected areas are Piyong, Mukron, Wagon - I, II, III, IV, Lekang-Khampti, Wingseng-Nangtaw, Borbeel and Mengkeng-Miri. A gully formation at RCC Spur near Deobeel has widened and the river flowing towards the right bank has affected Deobeel area to Dirakmiri and Mengkengmiri.
The water level of Jengthu River is also increasing rapidly and has affected Mukron, Chessing Nongtaw, Jenglai and Wagon-IV village.
In Chongkham circle, the affected areas are Alubari, Chakma camp-I, II, III, Inju, Insa, Pankhao, Kherem, Gunanagar and Chongkham Township.
The Lohit, Kamlang, Berreng and Tengapani rivers are overflowing and have resulted in heavy erosion in both the banks of all rivers, flowing above danger level.
In Wakro circle, the affected areas are Mawai, New-Pukhuri villages and Wakro Township is also under threat.
In Lohit, a portion of the all weather link road towards Durah Nallah Hydel has been completely washed out in Changliang village. Heavy erosion also has happened on the banks of Dura Nallah, Tezu River, Denning River, Sukha River, Balijan River, Digaru River and Lohit River.
The WRD report added that at Sunpura circle, the departmental structure constructed under RE this year at Danku area is safe till now and has protected entire Sunpura circle from flood submergence. The probability of flood water from Balijan River and back water of Kalikhola River entering Sunpura Township and its adjoining villages cannot be ruled out if the downpour continues.
The departmental officers and staff are constantly monitoring the situation and daily flood reports are being sent to the DCs of both Tezu and Namsai, added the report.
MIAO: Incessant rains over the past few days caused flooding in parts of Miao circle, reports Indrajit Tingwa from Miao.
The swelling Nao Dihing river submerged rice fields and residential areas of Namphai -II, about eight kilometres from Miao town, on Friday posing great threat to lives and properties of people living in low lying areas.
The population residing at low lying area was safely evacuated to safe and higher zone.
Flood waters were also flowing over and across the roads making movement of vehicular traffic difficult.
Flash flood also submerged low lying areas of Jairampur sub division, including the check gate area, Prem Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Khandu area, and 16th miles.
MLA Laisam Simai on hearing about the flood threat instructed the administration to take stock of the situation as well as to help out the victims.
Meanwhile, ADC K Riba advised people living in low lying areas to move to a safer place.
The population of the affected area has been relocated to safer zone and as precautionary step, Riba has opened the GHSS auditorium for sheltering the flood affected people. He has also provided ration to the victims.
PASIGHAT: The heavy rains since last few days have submerged different parts of Pasighat Township despite the administration's attempt to flush out the excess rainwater.
The main market area, many colonies and link roads are under water.
East Siang Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla accompanied by EE (PWD) and WRD, ATP and PMC councilors visited all affected locations and took stock of the situation on Friday. Expressing her dismay, DC Khosla noted that the rainwater created flood like situation was manmade. The existing drainage system was damaged and blocked by construction materials, garbage in the uncovered drains has stopped flow of water, she observed.
The DC directed the engineers to clear water logging on priority. She also cautioned that stagnant water not only cripples normal life but may also lead to outbreak of diseases like Dengue, Malaria etc. She instructed the traders and building owners to shift the construction materials from the roadsides immediately, failing to do shall invite penalty.
Later visiting the river banks, DC Khosla has issued an order prohibiting fishing, swimming and other activities in and around Siang and Sibokorong rivers for human safety. She also appealed the people not to panic and advised the public residing adjacent to the river and in the low lying areas to be careful and stay vigilant. DIPRO
Govt taking necessary measures to deal with the flood: CM
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Taking serious note of the prevailing flood situation in Tezu, Namsai and Jairampur areas in the state, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday said that the state government is taking all necessary measures to deal with the flood situation.
Accordingly CM Khandu has directed respective legislators of Tezu, Namsai and Jairampur, Dr Mohesh Chai, Zingnu Namchoom and Laisam Simai to oversee the situation.
The legislators has been asked to supervise all the relief measures to be taken for which the state government has placed funds for assistance to flood victims and for any restoration activities.
The district administration has been directed to carry out relief activities under supervision of local legislators.
The CM has also appealed the people to stay alert and to take preventive and precautionary measures to minimise losses and damages. It is predicted that the monsoon shower is likely to continue for long.
Tawang erupts in protest against HEPs, non fulfillment of demands

ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Tawang erupted in protest on Friday against proposed construction of large Hydro Power Projects (HEP) and non fulfilment of six point demands set forth by Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) and 302 Action committee, comprising of several organisations regarding May 2 police firing that killed two anti hydro-power protestors and injured atleast 21 others.
Large number of villagers set to be affected by the hydro power projects along with hundreds of monks marched from Chamleng to Old bazaar area during the rally, which was peaceful.
During the rally, the signature campaign against mega HEPs (to save the holy land, religion, culture and identity) led by SMRF was signed by thousands of people.
Tawang District Police Chief Tumme Amo said that more than 2500 people participated in the event which was peaceful.
President SMRF Lama Lobsang Phuntso, its Chief Adviser Lama Kesang Norbu, Lama Lobsang Choider, Tsering Dorjee addressed the gathering and were unanimous in their views that government must take note of the protests against mega hydro electric projects.
The speakers further expressed the hope that Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who is from Tawang would understand the opposition to hydro power by the people of the district. They further said that the Friday's rally was neither against any political leaders nor against the Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
The Peace Committee and the officers of Tawang Monpa Employees Society had approached the organisers of Friday's rally to call it off after which it was decided that a meeting would be conducted instead. But when no one turned up, they went ahead with the rally, said one of the organisers.
An insider said that SMRF and 302 action committee has demanded that the three MLAs of the District should come to Tawang to make their stand clear on the hydro power projects as well as respond to the grievances of the people after the May 2 incident.
Sang Chhoedup, Tawang district President of BJP in his address said that the root cause of May 2 firing was because of the proposed constructions of Mega hydro power projects in Tawang while BJP Spokesperson Lham Dorjee said that party would step out in support of the people who are protesting against the hydro electric power.
Speaking to this daily, Lama Lobsang Gyatso said that protests would continue and go beyond Tawang. We will reach Delhi to make sure that big hydro power projects are not constructed, he said.
The participation of huge numbers of people, in spite of the rain shows the opposition of the common people against the dams, Lama Lobsang added.
302 Action Committee and SMRF had served a month's notice to the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh on June 21 seeking jobs for the next of the kin as recommended by National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to the two anti dam activists who died in the May 2 Tawang police firing, CBI probe under the supervision of Supreme Court or High Court into the firing, declaration of May 2 as Martyr's Day and making the inquiry reports by district administration and state govt public and suspension of DC and DSP during the time of the incident.
Nyima Wangda, a 17 year old novice monk from Tawang Monastery and Tsering Tempa, a 33 year old newly married from Jangda village were killed by police at the Tawang police station while they were protesting against the arrest of Lama Lobsang Gyatso who is spearheading the protest against mega hydro power projects in Tawang on May 2.
Miss Earth finalist Darang visits DPM school, interacts with children
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Miss Earth India finalist from Pasighat Chum Darang has participated in the community service and interacted with the students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired at Chimpu on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chum Darang, one of the 20 finalists in the Earth India Contest, has appealed all to protect the earth from pollution. Exhorting the people not to use plastic for clean environment, she also emphasised on preservation and maintenance of greenery to make the earth a better place to live in.
While appreciating one and all including NGOs for their support in her mission, Darang said "I have selected as one of the finalists in the Miss Earth contest due to love, blessing and support extended by all and hoped to see the continued support in future."
In his address NESO Former Secretary General, Gunjum Haider, said Chum Darang has made Arunachal in particular and North East in general proud by her sheer determination.
Stressing the need for preservation of environment, Haider opined that rapid industrialisation and urbanisation in the name of development has increased the global warming. He also appealed to one and all to shoulder responsibility and protect the Earth.
AAPSU Finance Secretary Suraj Tayam, who is also an event manager, appealed to all to extend support to Darang. He stressed on collective efforts to fight against drug menace for better health and education.
Chairperson, AYANG (NGO engaged in voluntary blood donation), Ini Talo, DPMSHI Principal H Sharma, Senior teacher S Tenzing, Social activist Yamik Mize, Lili Riba Jamoh, also addressed the gathering. All the NGOs extending support to the mission of Darang, namely, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, AdiSU, Adi Bane Kebang, I Love Arunachal, Green Pioneer, United Charity participated in the plantation programmes conducted in the school campus.

Two new APSTS buses flagged off by Speaker
BOMDILA, Jul 22: Two buses of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service (APSTS) were flagged-off by Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly Speaker, T N Thongdok for Guwahati via Kalaktang from the APSTS Bus station here on Friday amidst the presence of local MLA, Japu Deru, DC Sonal Swaroop and APSTS General Manager, Abu Tayeng and SP, A Koan.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Thongdok said that with the introduction of the bus service the long felt demand of the local people has been fulfilled. He further sought cooperation from both the public and the department for its upkeep.
'The departmental staffs and officers also need to imbibe discipline and work culture in order to provide better services to the people' he said adding that 3 Tata Sumos would also be provided to the district soon to improve connectivity.
MLA, Japu Deru observed that as the State Transport Services is a revenue generating department, endeavors should be made to strengthen the revenue generating mechanism and most importantly to plug the revenue leakages. He called upon the people to co-operate with the department by adhering to the laid down rules and regulations.
DC, Sonal Swaroop in her address hoped that with the introduction of the buses, surface communication in the area has taken a great leap forward which not only would facilitate easy mobility but would also facilitate growth in education, health, business and other sectors which lagged behind so far.

'1962: My Country Land' to premiere at BVFF
GUWAHATI, Jul 22: After successful screening at the March du Film at Festival de Cannes in May this year, Dibrugarh-based filmmaker Chow Partha Borgohain's feature film '1962 My Country Land' will be screened at the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) on Saturday.
Written, cinematographed and directed by Chow Partha Borgohain, '1962 My Country Land' is an English feature film based on the 1962 Sino-Indo war.
"We are happy to receive some good response on the film at Cannes. Now screening the film at the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival at Guwahati would bring us closer to our regional audience," Borgohain said talking about the film.
The film, shot mostly in Arunachal Pradesh, is the first home production of Living Dreams Productions, headed by Marbom Mai.
"One of the goals of the company is to promote Northeast India for film tourism locations and introduce filmmakers to great avenues and serenity of northeast India," she said.
After this first feature, Living Dreams is expanding their horizon in to partnering with international labels as co-producer in productions in their upcoming projects.
Elaborating on the world-wide release of '1962: My Country Land', Mai said, "At present we are contemplating on the release dates, as of now our primary focus is to explore more film festival circuits in India and abroad. We are planning to screen the film in various festivals before we move for a commercial release."
Starring Aham Sharma, Lhakpa Lepcha, Daniel Shin Han and Ketholeno Kense in lead roles, the film showcases the struggle and life of the main characters during the approaching war and how they were able to believe - and not believe - each other.
Produced by Marbom Mai, the film was shot in parts of picturesque Tawang and Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh. Guru Rewben Mashangva was the music composer of the film where he collaborated with Shankar Shankini.
Issues concerning roads, public welfare discussed
AALO, Jul 22: Issues like repair work of Aalo-Bam road, establishment of General Hospital, regulation of vehicle parking places etc, were discussed during a meeting of Aalo Town Public Welfare and Development Society (ATPWDS), general public and HoDs held under the chairmanship of West Siang DC, Pige Ligu held here on Thursday.
The meeting was convened to take the stock of various issues put forth by ATPWDS and other problems raised by various organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, DC, Pige Ligu said that such meetings held from time to time give scope for mutual exchange of views to sort out issues that confront the welfare of people. Since TK Engineering has not been officially handed over the construction works of Trans Arunachal Highway, administration cannot pressurize the company to carry the work immediately but the DC requested the company to carry all the work in anticipation of govt. nod within a week time. He also asked the EE PWD to furnish detail estimate on renovation of hostels at Govt. Higher Secondary School so that government can be pursued for placement of fund for renovation works.
Speaking on reported collection/extortion by way of donation by some unauthorized organizations the DC assured to look into the issue.
ADC, Nyiken Lollen also spoke on the occasion.
Responding to reports on alleged indulgence of police personnel in drug abuse, SP Aalo, Mari Riba said that people should report such matter directly to him so that strict action is initiated against such erring officials.
Participating in the discussion, PWD EE, Dugjum Lona disclosed that Rs. 1(one) crore placed for repairing of road works is subjudised in court and the renovation work of hostels is about to be completed but non-placement of fund by government is a cause of concern.
Urban Development and Housing, Deputy Director, Hali Walley, DLRSO, Takam Titus, Town Magistrate, Liyi Bagra, CO, Oni Padun, CO (Eln), Lijum Ete and DVO incharge, Dr. Taken Kamchi spoke in detail about various works and problems pertaining to their department and sought cooperation of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the ATPWDS, Former Ministers, Kento Ete and Doi Ado and the Society's General Secretary, Mito Lollen and others expressed their resentment over the deplorable condition of Aalo-Bam road besides, inaction of TK Engineering to carry out the renovation works till date despite assurances.
Representing TK Engineering, VPS Negi disclosed that the pace of construction and maintenance works of highway could not be done hurriedly as the contract work has not been officially awarded to the company. Moreover the monsoon too is coming as spoilsport and most of the electric poles, water pipelines, telephones lines etc, are not yet shifted to start the work smoothly. (DIPRO)
Pema accorded traditional reception in Delhi
NEW DELHI, Jul 22: Chief Minister Pema Khandu was accorded a warm and traditional reception by the monks and students on his arrival at Arunachal Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.
Khandu was congratulated and welcomed in a befitting manner by the officers and officials of Bhawan led by Geetanjali Gupta, Resident Commissioner, along with the students and community members residing in Delhi, when he arrived here this evening. He was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Member of Parliament Ninong Ering.
Later, the Chief Minister proceeded to his office chamber where monks received him with chants of Manglacharan.
One Stop Centre to deal with gender based violence

Gender based violence (GBV) occurs in all societies in the world and Arunachal Pradesh is no exception. There are several forms of gender based violence, and it is present in different forms like, rape, child marriage, forced marriage, polygamy, sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse, slavery, trafficking of girl child for domestic help, bartering and selling of girl child for economic gain etc.
Apart from these, Arunachal Pradesh is also grappling with violence due to inequities in social life in terms of economic rights. As per OSC record (April-July 2016), Arunachal Pradesh has registered 27 GBV cases, which included child marriage and sexual exploitation (11), domestic violence (11), rape case (2) and 3 cases of counselling regarding marital disputes (polygamy).
Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) stated that gender based violence is a global health, human rights and development issue that transcends geography, class, culture, age, race and religion to affect every community and country in every corner of the world. Further, if we recall the infamous incident of Nirbhaya, it is not only Arunachal Pradesh but India as a country is affected with GBV in the name of culture and traditions.
In the light of above, the12th Plan Working Group on Women's Agency and Empowerment had recommended setting up of One Stop Crisis Centres (OSC) providing shelter, police desk, legal, medical and counselling services to victims of violence under one roof integrated with a 24 hour Helpline.
Justice (Retd.) Usha Mehra Commission recommended setting up measures to improve women's safety and also the Ministry of Finance, Government of India has established 'Nirbhaya Fund' for women safety pertaining to the strategic areas of prevention, protection and rehabilitation.
Considering the popular recommendation by different agency, MWCD has formulated a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for setting up OSC with an objective to facilitate immediate, emergency and non-emergency access to a range of services to fight against any forms of violence against women both in private and public spaces. The OSC facilitates access to services like emergency response and rescue service, medical assistance, assistance to women in lodging FIR/NCR/DIR, psycho-social support/counselling legal aid and counselling, shelter and video conferencing facility.
Besides, OSC will support all women including girls below 18 years of age affected by violence, irrespective of caste, class, religion, region, sexual orientation or marital status.

ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Pinki Karki partnering with Taring Yania entered into the Quarterfinal of All India Junior Badminton Tournament 2016 on Friday.
Pinki and Yania defeated Eshita Raju K. and Sahithi Bandi, ranked 8th in national ranking of Telangana in girls U-19 double by 21-18,16-21 and 21-16 sets.
The pair of Pinki and Yania is currently ranked 10th in national ranking in U-19 category. They will face with India's No 1 Shikha Gautham and Mahima Agarwal of Karanataka at 1.40 pm on Saturday at Soroor Nagar Indoor Stadium Hyderabad -Telangana.

Locals restore power transmission line
PANGIN, Jul 22: The local people of Pangin voluntarily restored the power transmission line between Yembung and Pangin on Friday.
The power transmission line to Pangin was disrupted for many days with two poles damaged due to road construction work of Trans Arunachal Highway and landslides etc. The Power department had failed to restore the system for last three months due to paucity of funds.
The restoration work initiated by the Siang Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh witnessed participation of government officials and staffs from various departments, local leaders and villagers. The two new poles were erected with the help of the power department. DIPRO
Let TAH be constructed on existing route: ASU
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Expressing shock at notification issued by Ministry of Defense through Gazette of India on March 31st 2011, where in it prohibited the construction of Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH) near Advance Landing Ground (ALG), Apatani Students' Union (ASU) on Friday appealed to the authority to let the TAH to pass through existing road.
The defense ministry had objected the construction of TAH near ALG and refused to issue no objection certificate, a release stated.
Since ALG Ziro doesn't have a civilian terminal, there is no question of shifting the existing road, ASU stated. The union further questioned if the TAH of Aalo and Pasighat can run parallel to respective ALG, why ALG Ziro is objected.
Union seeks revocation of transfer order
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: All Arunachal Pradesh Anti- Corruption Students' Union (AAPACSU) has reiterated its demand for revocation of transfer order of Seijosa ADC in-charge T R Tapu in the greater interest of public.
In a representation to the Chief Minister, the union stated that the ADC in-charge was discharging his duties in the best interest of the public and did not complete the official tenure of three years after posting.
Claiming that he was prematurely transferred by politicians for personal benefits, the union sought for early revocation of transfer order and retention of the officer.
AAPPWDRCA disappointed with new procedure
ITANAGAT, Jul 22: The All Arunachal Pradesh PWD Registered Contractor Association (AAPPWDRCA) has expressed disappointment with the newly introduced additional procedure of obtaining LOC authorization from the finance department for execution of various schemes saying that it creates hurdle in the work.
In its representation to the chief secretary, GoAP, seeking to do away with the new system, it alleged that the finance department delays the process in the name of finance control system which again makes it problematic for the contractors to get paid on time.
Appointment of ROs sought
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU), Eastern Zone has sought appointment of registering officers with office staff at Pangin for Siang district, Yingkiong for Upper Siang district and Pasighat for East Siang district before August 11 next. They have written to the labour commissioner cum secretary, APB&OCWWB in this regard and warned of taking up democratic movement if the demand is not fulfilled within the set time.
Van Mahostava celebrated at Tippi
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The people of Tippi celebrated the 67th Van Mahostava at Govt Middle School, Tippi by organizing plantation drive.
Addressing the gathering, DFO VK Jawal of Khellong Forest Division, Bhalukpong explained the significance of Van Mahostava and exhorted children to plant trees and conserve forests. He said "because of degradation of catchment area, people of Tippi and Bhalukpong are relying on water from distant sources. We should conserve forests and improve the catchment area for water security."
Saying that raising trees is akin to raising children, the DFO exhorted people present on the occasion to plant trees on their birthdays, festivals and other special occasions. He asked the people to be messengers of cleanliness and saviours of forests and wildlife. He has also asked people to bring instances of illegal felling of trees or wildlife poaching to the notice of concerned authorities.
Chairman, School Management Committee Fesom Sekong in his explained the importance and role trees in tackling global warming. Unseasonal rains, shrinkage of glaciers and increasing natural calamities are results of global warming, he said and asked people to plant more trees to tackle this phenomenon. He has also highlighted about the increasing incidence of human-wildlife conflict because of decrease in forest cover and encroachment in wildlife corridors like Dadzelling.
Tippi ASM Lakhman Sekong expressed his happiness over large turnout of people and appreciated the DFO for his active support and participation.
The plantation drive was organized by Forest department along with the members of Panchayat, Tippi Self Help groups and Taxi union of Tippi. Also present on the occasion were Jeevan Yame, ASM, Bhalukpong, Nani Tade, AE(PHED), Dr T Neha, T Leyak, BEO apart from gaon buras, staff from forest and education departments.
Awareness prog on AYUSH system of medicine at Kitpi
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The District AYUSH Society, Tawang under the aegis of National AYUSH Mission organized an awareness camp on AYUSH system of medicines and service availability at Kitpi, Tawang on July 22.
Highlighting on National AYUSH Mission and District AYUSH Society during the camp at VKV School Kitpi and PHC, Medical Officer (H) Dr. K Meru advised people to avail the services of AYUSH systems of medicines.
AYUSH stands for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, Dr. Meru, who also is the Member Secretary of District AYUSH Society, said while informing that the AYUSH services are available at free of cost at various Government Hospitals under Tawang district and are efficacious in dealing with different ailments/ diseases.
Medical Officer (Ayurveda) Dr. Namgey Dakpa exhorted the gathering to maintain personal hygiene, to take balance diet, to lead a healthy lifestyle and to practice Yoga regularly to stay healthy.
One should consult qualified AYUSH doctors while opting for treatment under AYUSH systems of medicines, Dr. Dakpe said. He gave emphasis proper hand washing before and after food, which can prevent many diseases. Correct hand-washing techniques were demonstrated by the AYUSH health team which was joined by all those who attended this camp.
Dr (Ms) Bamin Rinyo Medical Officer i/c PHC Kitpi called for organizing such awareness camp in Kitpi Circle in future too.
After the formal program, health check-ups were conducted where Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines were distributed to the patients free of cost.
The next round of AYUSH Health Awareness camp will be held at Jang Sub-Division on July 29 coinciding with the launching program of Intensified Diarrheal Control Fortnight (IDCF).

Organized across eight places in Capital, renowned priests/Nyibus -- Tana Rokeshwar, Gumyir Kato, Hiba Tapo, Rigio Tada, Kago Rambia, Nguya Potom and Techi Ako were felicitated on the occasion.
DDSE asks officials to conduct announced school visit
YUPIA, Jul 22: Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE), Yupia ST Zara exhorted officials to perform their duties sincerely to improve the education scenario.
Addressing BEO, BRCC, URCC and CRCC of Papum Pare District in a coordination meeting here on July 20, the DDSE asked them conduct unannounced visits of school atleast once in a week to take stock of the functioning of the schools, and submit the findings immediately.
The DPCs of RMSA and SSA, BEOs of MDM and Estt. BEO and BEOs of Sagalee, Mengio, Doimukh, Itanagar, URCC, Doimukh, BRCCs of Lekhi and Ganga also expressed their views.
Colony dwellers repair road on self-help basis
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The approach road to A-Sector, Rono, Doimukh was repaired by the colony dwellers on self-help basis.
The road was lying in a deplorable condition for want of maintenance
Around 55 to 60 members of the colony, including the GBs, Panchayat members and social workers actively took part during the social on July 22.
Black Badge protest by NIC staff
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The National Informatics Centre (NIC) employees under the banner of All India NIC Officer's Association have been staging a protest across the country since July 7 by wearing black badges over the Centre's denial of promotions to NIC staff and in protest against Govt failure to resolve other burning issues of the NICians.
Arunachal Pradesh unit of All India NIC S&T Officers Association informed that if the issues and concerns of NIC Scientists & Technologists continue to remain unresolved by the organization & the government, the black badge protest may take bigger shape in the form of a nation-wide indefinite strike which for sure would bring down the government IT machinery in the country to a standstill as many of the Central / State Govt IT projects runs on NIC's NICNET connectivity.
The organization said out of the around 3500 Scientists & Technologists working under NIC, 2800 employees of the organization have been denied promotions / career progression for the last 10 years or more.
When the technical manpower of the organization themselves are not satisfied and frustrated due to non-fulfillment of their demands, how ambitious programmes of the government like the DIGITAL INDIA is to be implemented across the country, including the border states like Arunachal Pradesh.
Demand for compensation
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The Charto Valley Welfare Society Taliha has demanded immediate compensation to the family members of Late Tapak Dui. The Society claimed that Late Dui was killed in a hit and run case by a vehicle belonging to BRO on October 7 last year. It further claimed that there was a written agreement between the victim's family and BRO that the family members would be compensated at the earliest but it is yet to be done.
In its letter to the chief engineer, Project Arunank, seeking immediate compensation it warned of taking up democratic movement if it is not done at the earliest.
ACEAF seeks postponement of AE's exam
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The Arunachal Civil Engineers' Aspirants' Forum (ACEAF) has sought postponement of AE's exam, which is going to be held on August 27 and 28, for 30 days.
In its memorandum submitted to the secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), it said that the exam date coincides with SSC central exam which falls on August 27. It also said that recruitment in legal metrology department should be conducted first as its advertisement came earlier.
Recruitment for JE in WRD is on August 13 and 14 has different and vast syllabus than APPSC (AE). And we get only few days between the two exams. UPSC exam is also scheduled for August 7, the union reasoned.
It further asked for the rejected candidates to rectify their mistakes in filling up the form.
ECDS appeals for funds to JNV Doimukh
KIMIN, Jul 22: Drawing attention to the pathetic condition of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Doimukh, the Education and Cultural Development Society (ECDS) has requested the state government to allocate emergency funds to the school.
In a release, the ECDS stated that the JNV school at the original site at Gumto needs water and road connectivity. The school has been running at the temporary site at Doimkuh since last 10 years and also requires to be shifted at the original place, added the release.
At present the students have to face lots of difficulties due to lack of proper sanitation facilities, hostel building and classrooms due to which many students get sick regularly in summer.
Sensitization workshop on SHGs and ALFs
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: A day-long awareness cum sensitization workshop on Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Area Level Federations (ALFs) was conducted by National Youth Project (NYP) in collaboration with Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) and State Urban Livelihood Mission (SULM).
Speaking in the workshop, NYP president, H P Biswas said that an ALF is an association of SHGs consisting of representatives from all member SHGs with the objective of supporting member SHGs. The federation of SHGs is essential to deal with larger issues like bank linkage, inter-group lending, negotiations with higher level structures and to gain greater bargaining power over the rights and privileges of SHGs.
State Urban Livelihood Mission, Manager, Ravi Sharma informed about availing loan and difficulties involved in it. He emphasised on maintaining proper documentation of SHGs records for availing loan or any government help.
Altogether 112 members from 27 SHGs of Ward 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 attended the programme. Similar programme will be conducted for Ward no. 9 to 18 on July 22.
